Colossians 3:12-14 the Message: So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. Yesterday we talked about how compassion should be worn, that it’s an outside garment. So every time our life brushes the life of another they should always come in contact with that layer of clothing first. We often think that compassion is a mere humanitarian thing we do for starving children or individuals that we think are less fortunate than we are. That is a form of compassion but not the one being spoken of by Paul here. I would challenge you today, on day 16, to ask God to show you true compassion. Perhaps Paul is showing us what the garment of compassion is actually made of. The materials used for your compassion garment are made of Kindness and Humility. If that is part of our garment, how is it possible that the only people who get our compassion are those less fortunate, there is no humility in that, and very little kindness. I would put it more on the order of just right and wrong, even better how about obedience. God says the act of religion that has merit is taking care of the widow and the poor. Congratulations, you are doing the least of what God has called you to do. We have been called to be Stewards of people, that which is most important to Him. Our Garment of Compassion is woven with threads of Kindness, and Humility. Kindness and Humility are best displayed in the action of forgiveness—when we humble our flesh to someone who has hurt us, and respond in kindness—and anything outside of forgiveness is opposite of Humility and Kindness. There is nothing worse than holding others to a standard we ourselves are not held to. I will buy into your belief that you have the right to hold on to bitterness, and unforgiveness, if you can tell me of one sin, that Christ has not forgiven you for. We are often quick to receive forgiveness, but slow in giving it. This 21 day journey is about crucifying our flesh and putting on the garment of compassion which is weaved together with Kindness and humility. Ask the Lord to reveal to you what your garment is woven out of, and to exchange your so called garment of compassion for his, so that we can walk in the stewardship that He has called us to.
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:12-14 Compassion: sympathetic consciousness of others' distress together with a desire to alleviate it As stewards of people, God has called us to cloth ourselves with compassion. The funny thing about clothes is we wear them on the outside of us, were it is seen. Compassion when worn correctly lays over the layer of grace that Jesus gave us when we did not deserve it. The gospel message is to be shared out of the grace we received and should be wrapped in compassion for the human soul. This week ask Jesus to show you how to cloth yourself in compassion. If you say you are compassionate but there are no deeds or actions that confirm that, then perhaps you like the sound of the word more than the action of it.
God has called us to love people the way that he loves people. Sounds simple I know, but is it? Jesus loved the world so much that He laid down His life for us. As believers we are called to be Christ like. He lived out on earth the example for us to live as believers. John15:9-15 shows that Jesus was the example here on earth of how much God Loves us, then He gives a command that we are called to love one another the way that He loves us. That my friend is were it gets tough. Gods ways of loving people are not the worlds way, or our fleshly way. That’s why it’s so important to fast and pray. During the Daniel fast ask God to help you be a good steward of loving people.
When we fully understand how God loves us-that while we were still sinners He sent Christ to die for us-it propels us to love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind. It should also change how we see ourselves. When we see our value because of Jesus’ sacrifice we can love ourselves and love others the same way God does. As you pray ask God to open your eyes to see yourself & others as He does. Ask Him to help you love others with the type love in 1 Corinthians 13 that was mentioned yesterday.
God has called us to care for what is most important to Him: People. Read 1 Corinthians 13 today, focus on verses 4-8. Take time to reread those verses inserting God where love is used...God is patient, God is kind. God does not envy, God does not boast, God is not proud. God does not dishonor others, God is not self-seeking, God is not easily angered, God keeps no record of wrongs. God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. God always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. God never fails. Ask Holy Spirit to help you love people with that same kind of love.

Change is happening all around us…the weather, technology, prices, fashion, people, how we communicate. It can be overwhelming at times! In Hebrews we read of the unchanging nature of Jesus, His immutability—“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 Some changes are more enjoyable than others. We’re lucky enough to live in an area of the world where we can experience four distinct seasons (sometimes all in one week :) ) What’s your favorite season? Let us know in the comments!
This past weekend, 11 guys from My Church went to the Stronger Men’s Conference. It was a great weekend of BBQ, flag football, relationship building, and life change. #StrongerMen
